Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center Berks County, PA Nolde Forest encompasses more than 665 acres of deciduous woodlands and coniferous plantations. A network of trails makes the center’s streams, ponds and diverse habitats accessible to both students and casual visitors. Most of the trails are suitable for skiing with a difficulty level of easy to intermediate. There is a mansion that serves as a visitor center. Most of the trails in Nolde forest were constructed as carriage roads. Therefore, the trails are mostly wide and the grades and curves are gentle. However, many of the trails are a bit rocky and we recommend you wait until there is at least eight inches of snow cover before skiing this delightful network of trails. There are bathrooms in the mansion and visitor center, near the main parking lot. This lot is roughly midway up the hill on which the Forest sits. Its other advantage is immediate access to many more trails than from the Sawmill lot. The lower "Sawmill"
parking lot, the one farthest north on Rt. 625, is at the lowest point
in the Forest, so you will be going uphill as soon as you put your skis
on. There is a bathroom at this lot. ![]() The
office and mansion parking lot are open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday
through Friday. All other areas are open sunrise to sunset, seven days
a week.
